CGI SUPERVISOR/ HEAD

DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for the production of visual effects and all 3D content on the projects that is assigned to him/her. A key consultant and collaborator of the studio’s Director, candidates are responsible for the technical and artistic quality of the projects produced. The standard of quality is established during the exchanges with the Directors, agency creative directors, agency producers and production staff. Candidates must therefore understand and interpret the creative intentions and also be conscious of the project’s budget constraints set by the production team.

The CGI Supervisor will also be responsible for collaborating in the studios growth with oversight in pipeline, infrastructure, talent, and implementing new workflows and tools. The Supervisor’s input will be required for issues such as artist performance and team selection, liaising with the overall project supervisor, producer, or director as required. This could include script reading and breakdown, project time/budget estimation, attending first contact meetings and conference calls with potential clients and being able to speak definitively and clearly about the studio’s abilities, resources and project briefs.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
  • Art : have excellent design, layout, colour and composition skills
  • Minimum five (5) years of work experience as a CGI supervisor and 8-10 years of experience in CG animation production for television, films, advertising, games or visual effects
  • Good instinct for timing, movement and editing cuts
  • Additional experience in modelling and character rigging
  • Thorough understanding of ad film production and on-set experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in the following: animation, rigging, sketching & / or drawing skills
  • Knowledge of photography: understand cameras, cinematography and how films are made, be able to influence the shoot so it works for the film
  • Experience in a CGI environment either in commercials, TV or features films
SKILLS:
  • Excellent creative and technical communication skills while giving
  • Lead and motivate a team through changing and often pressured times
  • Set an optimistic tone on the show and promote communication and team work
  • Being able to keep calm in the often challenging, high pressured environment
  • Lead by example
  • Strong leadership skills
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
  • Fluent in Maya, Nuke, Photoshop, After Effects
  • Comparable Software experience also can be considered
QUALIFICATION/KNOWLEDGE:
  • Outstanding understanding of anatomy, shape, composition, physical motion, weight and balance
  • 2D animation skills
  • Clear understanding of 3D computer graphics theory and practice
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Act as a single point of communication between the animation / CGI team and the client / agency
  • Create creative concept boards in-line with the brand brief and the vision of the creative team
  • Researching visual styles, genre and technology to produce each individual project
  • Interpret the brief from the client / agency and transmit it to the animation team
  • Work with storyboard / animatics / grey scales / lay outs and create key framed animation
  • Create visually powerful shots that depict mood and tendencies of the characters within the established story world
  • Manage a team of animators, spearheading project planning and ensuring artistic quality while staying on client schedule
  • Mentor, develop and support the animation team with constructive feedback
  • Provide direction to the team to ensure quality of work is in line with the creative vision
  • Maintain creative relations with given clients; establish strong client confidence
  • Review shots, approve shots, assign revisions, troubleshoot shots. Ensure quality goals of animation
  • Communicate regularly with the lighting, rigging, art and production teams to minimize errors and inefficiencies in the production pipeline
  • Ensure that the work of the team follows the quality standards, artistic direction and set deadlines
  • Update senior management to show status weekly
PRE-PRODUCTION:
  • Prepare the CGI production breakdown
  • Participate in pre-production meetings
  • Anticipate problems and present solutions adapted to time and budget constraints
